Congressman Inslee to step down and focus on run for governor

(Reuters) - Representative Jay Inslee said on Saturday he would step down from Congress later this month to focus full time on what is expected to be a tight race for governor of Washington state. Inslee, a Washington Democrat who has served in Congress since 1999, said his resignation is effective March 20. He is running against Republican Rob McKenna, the state’s Attorney General, in a gubernatorial race to replace Democratic incumbent Christine Gregoire.
