CHICAGO (Reuters) - U.S. Representative Timothy Johnson, a moderate six-term Republican from southern Illinois, is retiring from Congress, political allies said on Thursday, joining nearly 40 lawmakers planning to leave the U.S. House. Johnson’s website said he would make a statement Thursday afternoon, but the Washington publication Roll Call had already listed Johnson on its website as one of 18 House Republicans and 21 House Democrats who are either retiring or running for another office.
